Today (Saturday) we visited two different temples in Chiang mai. The first one we went to is made of lots of silver and it is called the Wat Sri Suphan and it looks really cool. When we went inside one of the indoor bits of the temple a monk tied a red bracelet around our wrists and then hit us on the head (quite hard) with some thin sticks! My sister went first and she wasn’t expecting it so it was really funny.
Next we went to an outside bit where you could walk around and see different sculptures of gods like Buddha. Also in the outside bit there was the main part of the temple but women and girls aren’t allowed in there so I don’t know what it’s like.
The second temple is called Wat Chadi Luang and it was much bigger than the first temple but it was really cool because it had the biggest Chedi in Thailand (although the top 30m fell down in an earthquake in 1545). There was also a giant gold statue of a reclining Buddha which was the position Buddha was in before he died. In the main part of the temple women and girls also weren’t allowed in which I find a bit annoying because I want to see what it’s like.
We were going to see more temples but it’s too hot to stay out (it’s about 36°). There is a famous night market outside our hostel later so hopefully it’s cool enough to go to that.
