12 Jun The Dogs
A few days ago at 13:00 (1pm) we went to a Lana Care for Animals dog shelter with 300 dogs and 11 cats!!!!!!!! When we arrived it sounded like…there were 300 hundred dogs 😂 As soon as we came in they all started barking and getting excited. When we were walking in all the dogs wanted to do was to lick us and sniff us (some of them were shy though and stayed away).
At first we went into a little room (which was split up into two different areas one bigger than the other) with around 10 dog in it and said hello to the dogs there. Two of them were paralysed, one completely and one partially and some were quite shy and getting used to people. Every time a rat ran along the inside of the roof one of the really small dogs went mad – barking like my dog Frank! She would jump up onto benches and try to get to it. She was really funny.
Next, we went into an outdoor corridor with two dogs that couldn’t decide if they wanted to like us (in the end they did 😄🥳) and one of them looked like my other dog Bear. He was called Michael but they called him Mikey. Off the corridor there were lots of pens, each pen had around 10 dogs in it. We cuddled and groomed the dogs and I swept out their huts. In one pen there were lots of bigger jumpy dogs. They rushed towards us excitedly so we had to go in one at a time. One of the dogs wanted to lick everyone all the time but when he licked he also nibbled but it didn’t hurt too much and he was really lovely!
After the dogs we cleaned out the cat enclosure which had fallen to pieces and there was dirt everywhere. It was really smelly but eventually we made it look nice for the cats.
At 17:00 (5pm) our taxi took us home. We had been there for 4 hours and the taxi driver had stayed the whole time! He took us back to Chiang Mai which took 1 hour and we went for street food. We could see a rain cloud coming so we raced home for a swim because you are not allowed to go in the pool when there are storms. This is because lightning goes to the highest place and water conducts electricity so the rooftop pool on floor 17 would be a perfect place for lightning to strike! Luckily though we had a swim before the rain!
